We’re Tim and Sonja – not so much intrepid travellers as mildly adventurous with a good insurance policy.
Tim is currently 68 – well, most of him is. His left hip is coming up to its first birthday and doing rather well, all things considered. Sonja, 62, is something of a rarity these days – still in possession of her own lips, teeth, and unkempt eyebrows (though admittedly not all the teeth that once featured).
We’ve reached that stage of life where we’ve become cheerfully grumpy. We can usually find fault with most things – tour groups, overpriced coffees, bad service, “authentic” experiences that clearly aren’t – but we still know how to enjoy ourselves. Mostly, it’s the simple pleasures: a glass of wine, a good view, birdsong, a starry sky, a comfy chair, and not too many stairs.
Lately, we’ve been spending more time exploring the Murcia region of Spain, where our curiosity (and occasional optimism) has led us to some delightful discoveries… and, let’s be honest, a few crushing disappointments.
This blog was actually born on the car journey home from visiting what a tour company grandly described as “Costa Calida’s Petra .” Our first post will explain why that was, put politely, a rather creative interpretation.
So here we are – older, slower, fatter and slightly creakier than we used to be, but still game for a wander (as long as there’s a toilet nearby, somewhere to sit down, and a ready supply of painkillers).
Join us as we grumble, giggle, and occasionally gush our way around Spain and beyond. Subscribe for future honest reviews, unfiltered opinions, and the occasional moan about bad signage, cobblestones, and uphill walks. Future posts will feature further tales of Spanish adventures, of UK camping, cruising in Egypt, travels through France, and much more.
After all, someone’s got to tell the truth about travel and it might as well be us.
Why not subscribe to receive notifications of new posts and any special offer tours that we find.
