There comes a point in life when apparently sensible people look at each other and say, “Shall we buy a caravan?”
And so, with absolutely no caravanning experience whatsoever, we did.
Meet Gina.
Gina is our Gin Tin – our little home on wheels, newest travelling companion and, we suspect, future witness to some of our finest domestic disagreements.
She joined the Grumpy Old Guides in October 2026 and, unlike her owners, appears to know exactly what she’s doing.
This is where we’ll be sharing The Grumpy Guide to Caravanning – tales of Gina’s travels, our triumphs and disasters, beautiful campsites, questionable purchases, reversing attempts, mysterious bits of equipment, things that rattle, things that leak and all the things nobody thought to tell us before we bought a caravan.
Along the way, we’ll share the places worth visiting, campsites we’d happily return to, useful things we discover and mistakes that you can perhaps avoid by allowing us to make them first.
There will be honest reviews. There may even be some genuinely useful advice.
There will also, inevitably, be occasions when Mrs Grumpy is standing behind Gina waving her arms while Mr Grumpy peers into the wing mirror shouting, “I CAN’T SEE YOU!”
Gina, meanwhile, will remain entirely blameless.
And once she’s safely pitched, the legs are down, the kettle is on and we’ve established that nothing important has fallen off on the journey, we’ll do what any responsible caravanners would do.
We’ll pour the gin.
